Artist statement

My work deals with the concept of reality and the poetic space formed outside the borders of social constrictions. Through intuitive drawing, subconscious acts and embodied performances I act out the confusion and mismatch between my subjective experience and a reality defined by social agreements.

When earths resources are highjacked by exploitation and defined as capital I want to bypass a  reality controlled by power interests and turn subjective experience into politics. I use drawing and writing processes to access subconscious thoughts and dreams as ideas for performance and installations presented to the public as alternative truths. Material and ideas are reassembled into objects or situations that seem to carry a further meaning often through humor and paradox.

I have a scientific background in cell-and ecological systems thinking . In the nervous system, the identity of a nerve-cell is ambiguously situated between being a discrete unit and being a part of a large network of cell-to-cell communication, where the qualities of the system extends the sum of its parts.

Similarly, our identity and perception of reality is explicitly defined by language based on social agreements, binding society together by exchange and cooperation. In parallel, a subjective implicit and subconscious perception of reality exists, opening up space for the unknown – a site for fear, curiosity and creativity.

My art practice is a subjective standpoint opposing rational thinking and truths written by powers and interests. I investigate how fear and authoritarian storytelling shapes reality through the language of science and economy and symbolic meanings of oil, architecture and the division of human from nature.
